| Introduction | ||||
| You may pursue the following degrees in educational leadership: | ||||
| n M.Ed. in educational leadership (with emphases in school leadership, community college, and educational foundations) | ||||
| n Ed.D. in educational leadership | ||||
| We also offer nondegree programs leading to state certification in supervision, principalship, and superintendency. We describe each of these programs in the sections that follow. | ||||
| M.Ed. in Educational Leadership (School Leadership Emphasis) |
||||
| Through this program, you explore the underpinnings of the K-12 educational system and develop knowledge and leadership skills applicable to the K-12 setting. We designed this program for teachers wishing to take a more active leadership role in their schools; it is a first step if you wish to pursue administrative state certification. | ||||
| For this 36-hour program, you take: | ||||
| n EDR 610 (3 hours) | ||||
| n EDF 630 or EDL 722 (3 hours) | ||||
| n 6 hours from EDF 670 or 711, 671, 672, 673, 677 or 703, and 704; EPS 712; EDL 723; CC 580 and 680; and comparable foundations courses from outside education that are related to your area of specialization | ||||
| n EDL 600, 630, 650, 660, and 680 (15 hours) | ||||
| n 9 hours of electives, with one each in ECI, EDL, and your area of specialization | ||||
| M.Ed. in Educational Leadership (Community College Emphasis) |
||||
| This program offers preparation if you are planning to enter the community college field as a faculty member or if you already have experience and wish to prepare yourself for greater leadership responsibilities. This program is also appropriate if you have an unusual combination of teaching interests and wish to qualify yourself to teach or assume leadership roles in the community college. | ||||
| For this 36-hour program, you take: | ||||
| n EDR 610, EDF 630, and CC 580 and 680 (12 hours) | ||||
| n EDL 600, 630, 660, and 680 (12 hours) (You must take these courses in this order.) |

| n 12 hours from CC 590, 599, 620, 640, 670, 688, 699 (3 hrs.), and 769 (Please note that if you choose the thesis option you may end up taking more than 3 hours of thesis credit because you must register for CC 699 each semester while you are working on your thesis.) |

| M.Ed. in Educational Leadership (Educational Foundations Emphasis) |
||||
| This program provides you with an opportunity to develop and enrich your understanding of the contexts and forces that shape educational policy and practice. By understanding and being able to articulate critical issues in education, you can be a participant in the educational and social changes currently taking place in our society. | ||||
| For this 36-hour program, you take: | ||||
| n EDF 630, 670, 671, 672, 673, 677, 703, or 711 (15 hours) | ||||
| n 3 hours in a social science or humanities elective | ||||
| n EDL 600, 630, or 650 (6 hours) | ||||
| n EDR 610 or EPS 525 (3 hours) | ||||
| n 3 hours of EDF 698 and 6 hours of EDF 699, for the research, writing, and oral defense of an approved thesis , or CC 580, 680, and 688 (9 hours); or EDL 660, 680, and 723 (9 hours) (Please note that if you choose the thesis option you may end up taking more than 6 hours of thesis credit because you must register for EDF 699 each semester while you are working on your thesis.) |

| Ed.D. in Educational Leadership | ||||
| We designed this doctorate primarily for individuals interested in K-12 educational administration or community college/higher education administration. | ||||
| For this 90-hour program, which involves completing a dissertation, you take: | ||||
| n 9 hours from EDF 670 or 711, 671, 672 or 673, 677 or 703, and 704; EPS 712; and a similar foundations course in a discipline outside education that's relevant to your specialization (Please note that at least 6 of these 9 hours must be in EDF courses.) |

| n 6 hours from CC 580 and 680, EDL 723, EDF 630 or EDL 722, and similar foundations courses in disciplines outside education that are relevant to your specialization | ||||
| n 27 hours of specialization electives (Specializations include K-12 school administration, community college/adult learners, higher education administration, educational foundations, educational evaluation and research, or curriculum and instruction.) |
